چکیده

Moving vehicle detection has become increasingly important in transportation management and road infrastructure development. State-of-the-art moving vehicle detection techniques require multi-frame images or at least a stereo pair of aerial photos for moving information extraction. This paper presents a new technique to detect moving vehicles using just one single set of QuickBird imagery, instead of using airborne multi-frame or stereo images. To find out the moving information of a vehicle, we utilize the unnoticeable time delay between multspectral and panchromatic bands of the QuickBird (or Ikonos) imagery. To achieve an acceptable accuracy of speed and location information, we first employ a refined satellite geometric sensor model to precisely register QuickBird multispectral and panchromatic bands, and then use a new mathematic model developed in our research to precisely calculate the ground position and moving speed of vehicles detected in the image. The initial testing results demonstrate that the technique developed in this research can extract information on position, speed, and moving direction of a vehicle at a reasonable accuracy.

Object-based Moving Vehicle Extraction from Worldview2 Imagery

Moving vehicle detection is very important for transportation management and traffic monitoring. Due to the submeter spatial resolution of very high resolution (VHR) imagery, vehicles can be identified from this type of imagery. Furthermore, because of the slight time difference between image acquisition of onboard sensors, (i.e. Pan and MS sensors) in VHR satellite such as Quickbird and GeoEye...

An Artificial Immune Approach for Vehicle Detection from High Resolution Space Imagery

Vehicle targets extraction is a new research issue for high resolution satellite imagery application in transportation. In this paper, an artificial immune approach is presented to extract vehicle targets from high resolution panchromatic satellite imagery. This approach uses the antibody network concept inspired from the immune system to learn a set of templates called antibodies for vehicle d...

An Initial Study on Vehicle Information Extraction from Single Pass QuickBird Satellite Imagery

Vehicle information is useful in many fields. In this paper, a technique is presented to extract vehicle information from single pass QuickBird images. While passing a target area, the satellite acquires panchromatic (PAN) and multi-spectral (MS) images simultaneously. Because of a small time interval difference between the PAN and MS images, it is theoretically possible to extract two sets of ...

Vehicle Queue Detection in Satellite Images of Urban Areas

There is an increasing demand in traffic monitoring of densely populated urban areas. In our approach we use a priori information of roads location and focus on vehicle queues detection. In this imagery single vehicles are merged to either dark or bright ribbons and therefore can hardly be separated. The queues can be extracted as lines in scale space using a differential geometric approach. We...

Automatic Vehicles Detection from High Resolution Satellite Imagery Using Morphological Neural Networks

This paper presents a morphological neural network approach to extract vehicle targets from high resolution panchromatic satellite imagery. In the approach, the morphological shared-weight neural network (MSNN) is used to classify image pixels on roads into vehicle targets and non-vehicle targets, and a morphology based preprocessing algorithm is developed to identify candidate vehicle pixels. ...
